World’s most attractive bike sharing system
Copenhagen wants to be the world’s most bike-friendly city; therefore they must offer the most attractive bike sharing system. We showed Copenhagen how it would look – and they chose to follow our suggestions.
Copenhagen has a vision: to become the world’s best city to live in! In 2015, as part of that vision, Copenhagen aims to be the world’s premier eco-metropolis – and the world’s best cycling city. At least 50% of Copenhagen residents use bicycles in their daily commute. Therefore, it announced a competition for the next generation of bike sharing. In tough competition with 127 teams from five continents LOTS finally won, along with environmental consultants Koucky & Partners and Green Idea Factory, with the concept, ”Open Bike”.
We won for three reasons. We started with people’s real needs and natural movement in the city. We figured brand new was better than improving the existing service. Finally, we created a unique system that positioned Copenhagen globally as a premier cycling city, which opened up new business opportunities as well.
Open Bike is in contrast with the current system of fixed stations based entirely on the idea of creating an attractive choice for people’s everyday commute – from door to door. Open Bike is a ”floating” system, where you can easily find and book the nearest bicycle via mobile phone – and then you can leave it where it best suits the user. Therefore, no fixed stations. Open Bike can also be easily integrated with the public transport system. It provides benefits to the users, the operators and the city.
New thinking and innovative solutions for tomorrow’s green travel is a core issue for us at LOTS. Therefore, we are especially proud that Copenhagen has the courage to like new-thinkers like us.
