Intuitive guiding interface decreases radiation to patients

Every year, approximately 3.6 billion diagnostic X-ray examinations are performed globally and the use of CT scans increases around 10 % annually, due to its low cost and high image quality. On the downside, CT scans result in very high radiation doses – up to 100 times higher than other X-ray methods. Each patient exposure to radiation increases the risk of developing cancer later in life. At the same time, international researchers warn that more than 20 % of all CT scans are unnecessary.
RaySafe S1, from the Swedish medtech company Unfors RaySafe, is a unique cloud-based radiation management solution for hospitals. It collects patient radiation dose data over time and guides the user (referring doctor, radiologist, nurse) to performing the most suitable examination while exposing the patient to the lowest possible dose.
Using in-depth interviews with different stakeholders and observing situations along the X-ray workflow, Lots assisted Unfors RaySafe in identifying their customers and user group motivations for using RaySafe S1 in their professional practice. The findings were visualised translated?into the intuitive GUI design, which strengthens Ray Safe’s already distinctive design identity.
RaySafe S1 provides decision support to hospital staff in stressful situations, thereby allowing the alarming trend of increased radiation doses to patients to be checked.
